Downside of a Fair Complexion (by Ramona)

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Nat comes home after work, and points at his forearms.

Me:  Did you get sunburned?
Nat:  Yup.  I didn’t get sunburned the whole time I was in New Orleans, but when I sit outside for lunch today, I get this!

Finding Cheap Gas (by Ramona)

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Here’s a website that I use to find the cheapest gas in town.  You can enter your own zipcode to find your cheapest gas in town.  :)

Usually, I don’t think a few cents per gallon is such a big deal, but today the cheapest gas is about  $0.35/gallon than the average price in town.

Garden Update (by Ramona)

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I just wanted to give you a garden update.  (I’ll post some pictures later).

My herbs are doing well, especially the thyme and cilantro.  Ellie gave me some mint and oregano.  Some of the mint is wilting, but there are some sprigs that look hearty.  The oregano seems to be doing fine.  My basil is doing ok, but it’s turned a lighter shade of green in recent weeks.  I had Ellie and Natalie look at it, and they think it’s doing fine, but they think it might need less watering and warmer weather to do better.  Come on warm weather in the Midwest!

My snow peas are doing great!  All but 4 of the seeds I planted came up, so I have 14 shoots coming up strong.  They are planted in a circle around a tomato cage, so as they get bigger, I’m going to train them to grow on the cage.  I decided to replant the peas that weren’t growing.  :)

The carrots are doing fabulous and growing well in their quarter plot.  They are everywhere, and I hope they continue to do well.

My pear tomatoes have sprouted, and they seem to be doing well.

The zucchini never sprouted, so I decided to replant them a few days ago.

My lettuce is doing ok.  It seems like only a quarter of the seeds came up, and they are clustered together on one side of the garden.  I’m planning to reseed the lettuce and hope more come up.  Ellie said she things that something was eating the sprouts that came up.  Waskily wabbits! :P

I’m afraid that pests will be more of a problem later in the summer, so I might put up a small plastic fence around my garden to ward off any squirrels and rabbits.  I’m not sure what to do with the bug problem, but I’ll wait to see if I have one before I do anything.  :)

Ramona and Sean are southbound too! (by Ramona)

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

A fews day ago, I considered going down to Houston while Nat was gone.  Then, yesterday, I decided to go.  My parents were kind enough to use their frequent flier miles to book my flight.  :)   So, now, Nat and I both will be gone from Monday to Saturday.  I’m a little worried about how Sean will do on the flight, especially since I’ll be by myself and the fact that I’ll have to nurse him at some point on our flight.  I’m also worried that his schedule will be messed up.  But Nat reminded me of Matthew 6:27, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”, and Philipians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Thanks Nat for the reminder.  :)

Speaking of prayer, please pray for Nat and the other members of the missions trip for safe travel to and from New Orleans!

New Orleans (by Ramona)

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Next week, Nat is leaving with our church to go on a missions trip to New Orleans. They are going for about a week to help clean up some of the remaining aftermath from Katrina. Nat is getting really excited to go on this missions trip; the last one he went to was in 2003 when he went to Morocco.

Sean and I will definitely miss Nat! We hope he has a safe trip down there and a great time with people from our church, the community he’s helping, and the church he’s working with down there! :)

Mother’s Day (by Ramona)

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Yesterday was Mother’s Day, my second because I was pregnant with Sean last year. We decided to take a rain check on Mother’s Day because it wasn’t a great day to celebrate yesterday; it was rainy and cold all day. Nat offered to take me out, but with the “icky” weather and the town being extra packed because of graduation (on top of Mother’s Day), we’re going to wait to celebrate until later. :)

Happy Birthday/Mother’s Day! (by Ramona)

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Today is my mom’s birthday.  I called her this morning to wish her a happy birthday, and she wanted to know when I would put new pictures of her grandson up.  :)   We haven’t taken as many pictures as we had in the past, but here (and here) are some new pictures. :)   Happy birthday mom, and Happy Mother’s Day to both of our moms! :)
